The staff of Virginia Bride Magazine visited the quaint town of Culpeper, Virginia this past Sunday on March 2, for our Greater Virginia Bridal Show. This little town is packed with fun things to do and see. The great thing about this town is that everything is fairly close by, so it’s easy to park the car and walk to all the neighboring shops, boutiques, and restaurants.
We were delighted to see that this town is very much into Mardi Gras, and as we walked along the street there were several beaded necklaces on the ground- evidence of the town’s own New Orleans style party that had been held the night before. Mari Gras masks were on the doors of businesses and the French style balconies of the city make it feel like you are no longer in Virginia.
As we waited for the Bridal Show vendors to arrive at the beautiful Culpeper Center, we ventured out for some quick coffee and stumbled upon one of the best coffee shops we have ever been to. The Raven’s Nest will treat you to various flavors of coffee and teas. Not only do they make their coffee right in front of you, but they also have freshly baked treats, which are to die for (the pralines are delicious!). We loved this place so much that we returned for lunch!
Our next most loved place on our trip was a little store named Green Roost. They have a wide variety of clothes, jewelry, candles, and lotions. They carry Farmhouse Fresh which can be seen in our current issue of Virginia Bride Magazine. This store was extremely well put together, and they have such unique items that anyone (not just brides) would love to see. I just had to get a candle to remember this place by, which is from Rewined, a business that takes old wine bottles and repurposes them into candles. This candle smells wonderful, and you feel wonderful burning it because it is giving new life to old bottles and it is made out of all natural soy. These would make such cute wedding favors! They could even be personalized with a small tag with the bride and groom’s name and wedding date.
After the show ended we decided to grab some dinner and headed over to the beautiful Foti’s restaurant. They have a wide variety of wines, and the dinner selections were amazing. I had the chicken pot pie which had a light, crispy, pastry-style crust on top, and chicken, vegetables and sausage on the inside. It was a wonderful dining experience and the restaurant had wonderful customer service. If you ever visit be sure to get dessert- it’s a must!
So next time you are in Culpeper, Virginia be sure to visit some of these locations around town, they will not disappoint! You never know what you might find!
