Hello beautiful brides!
Have you ever had braid-envy for Katniss’ locks in “The Hunger Games” or wanted to know what it feels like to be the girl on fire (cue Alicia Keys being stuck in your head)? Katniss may be center of attention in the arena, but at your wedding, all eyes are on you! But why not take some tips from District 12’s victor? Here are some main features of a bride’s style, taking inspiration from dystopian future series.
Luckily, “The Hunger Games” gives brides a lot to work with! In Catching Fire, Katniss and Peeta were engaged before being thrown into the arena for a second time. Before the games, Katniss premiered her beautiful wedding dress in front of the Capitol. Cinna’s exquisite design had sharp features as well as some interesting add-ons to make the girl on fire really stand out. I thought this dress, designed by Demetrios, really captured the theme of the films. It’s both eye catching and detailed, two qualities that Katniss must embody with Cinna’s designs while in the Capitol. Demetrios did a tremendous job on this dress from his 2012 collection, and his designs can be found in Macy’s Bridal Salon in Mclean and in Katherine’s Bridal Boutique in Alexandria!
I love this headpiece from David’s Bridal. The leaf design is perfect for a “Hunger Games” wedding style, because of Katniss’ affinity for the forest and the style of the arena in the first book and movie. It also goes well with the beading on the dress, so everything would work well as a cohesive look for your big day! David’s Bridal has a lot of beautiful accessories, and has many locations all over Virginia. Look for this headpiece and more in Hampton, Norfolk, Richmond, Roanoke, Springfield and Woodbridge!
Every bride always needs something blue, but the girl on fire must be bold enough to showcase some red! I love these red peep toe heels from ChristyNgShoes on Etsy for a Katniss look! The leaf pattern matches that on the headpiece, and the bold color is perfect for The Mockingjay!
My favorite aspect of the bouquet, found from Palette of Petals located in Virginia Beach, is the calla lilies! A “Hunger Games” bouquet needs something exotic to stand out, and calla lilies add just that touch. The orange color also adds to the fire motif. I do wish there was more red rather than pink in the bouquet, but as a whole, I believe Katniss would be proud hold this on her walk down the aisle (if she hadn’t been thrown back into the arena, that is)!
And last, but certainly not least, the famous mockingjay pin. This particular one was found at Hot Topic, which has many convenient locations in Virginia! There are many ways a bride could incorporate the pin into her style. The most obvious would be to pin it on your dress somewhere, but I love the idea of pinning it to your bouquet!

Happy wedding planning, and may the odds be ever in your favor!
