LOVE STORY
In December 2017, the chilly air of Richmond, Virginia was filled with the warm aroma of freshly brewed coffee at Shockoe Espresso, a cozy little café downtown. It was here, amidst the clinking of mugs and the hum of quiet conversations, that Will and Lauren, two eager and ambitious first-year medical students at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, met for the first time. Their shared passion for healing and love for caffeine drew them together, and this serendipitous meeting over steaming cups marked the start of a remarkable journey in their studies and lives. Their chemistry was undeniable as they exchanged stories and smiles, setting the stage for a partnership that would blend friendship, ambition, and countless adventures in the years to come.
Will and Lauren’s first date was a delightful experience, made even sweeter by their shared joy of enjoying ice cream at the Charm School Study Hall in Richmond, renowned for its ice cream and frozen yogurt. As they savored every scoop, laughter and playful banter filled the air, setting the stage for their beautiful journey ahead.
As their connection deepened, the couple ventured beyond Richmond. They embarked on adventures that took them to the rustic charm of their former college campuses—Lauren, an alumna of the University of Virginia and Will, an alumnus of William & Mary. They enjoyed exploring the breathtaking scenery of the picturesque wineries in Charlottesville and relished sharing their favorite spots. One of their most cherished experiences was savoring the decadent chocolate mousse at Blue Talon Bistro in Williamsburg. Together, they created countless memories filled with laughter. Each new experience strengthened their bond, weaving a tapestry of memories they would cherish forever.
When asked what they love about each other, Lauren said that what truly captivated her about Will was his adventurous spirit. Whether cooking or planning spontaneous weekend getaways, his enthusiasm for life was always infectious. In turn, Will admired Lauren’s kind heart, sharp intellect and incredible energy. Together, they balanced each other perfectly, making every day feel like a new adventure in love.
After completing their medical studies, the couple made a significant transition, moving from the familiar streets of Richmond to the vibrant city of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
PROPOSAL
In a moment that would forever change their lives, Will proposed to Lauren on a sweltering July afternoon in 2023 at the enchanting Maymont in Richmond. The day was filled with nostalgia as they returned to the city where their love story began, sharing memories from their medical school days. The picturesque beauty of Maymont provided the perfect backdrop for this life-altering moment, igniting their anticipation for the future.
“I knew it was going to be a special weekend when Will planned out our entire itinerary,” Lauren recalled. They started their trip by strolling the picturesque James River, soaking up the summer sun. Their adventures continued with sweet stops for coffee at Ironclad Coffee Roasters & Baking Company and delicious pastries from Sub Rosa—treats that had been staples for them during their time as students.
As the afternoon progressed, they returned to Maymont, where they had cherished countless moments together during their school years. It was the perfect backdrop for a life-changing question. Surrounded by the serene beauty of the Japanese gardens, Will took a deep breath and declared his love for Lauren, his heart full of hope and excitement.
In that magical moment, he presented her with a stunning custom-made 2-carat solitaire diamond ring set on a delicate yellow gold band. The ring sparkled as brightly as their future together. It was a day filled with joy, love and the promise of forever.

With meticulous planning, Will coordinated the session with the talented photographer Jason Collins, ensuring every heartfelt moment of the proposal was beautifully immortalized. The result? Lauren radiated elegance in an Ann Taylor floral-print dress paired with chic brown shoes that danced in harmony with the soft charm of the garden. Equally stylish, Will sported relaxed yet classy attire from Brooks Brothers and J. Crew during the Maymont proposal.
While immersed in their residency training in the Midwest, they desired to capture winter’s beauty. “Wouldn’t having a snowy setting for our engagement shoot be incredible?” Lauren suggested. With this dream in mind, they persuaded Jason to travel to Minneapolis for a unique and memorable experience.
Despite Mother Nature’s unexpected plans and one of the least snowy winters they could remember, Will and Lauren’s enthusiasm remained undiminished. They embraced the chilly air and adorned themselves in stylish outfits, exploring the breathtaking scenery of Minnehaha Falls. The icy cascades formed a stunning contrast to the warmth of their love, creating the perfect frames for unforgettable moments filled with laughter and joy.
Lauren donned a cozy J. Crew dress, tights and a wool coat, complemented by brown boots from Jack Rogers—perfect for a day of adventure. Will bundled up in a J. Crew wool coat paired with textured pants and a shirt, ready to create memories in the crisp winter air.
Together, they captured the essence of winter romance, transforming a potentially bleak season into a vibrant celebration of love. Their story shone as brightly as the sunlight reflecting off frozen waterfalls, inviting everyone to share their engagement journey’s joy!
ENGAGEMENT PARTY
Will and Lauren’s engagement party, held in June 2024 at a private residence in Richmond, was truly unforgettable. Lauren’s aunt Jayne graciously hosted the event at her home. Jayne showcased her exceptional baking skills by creating a perfect lemon cake for the occasion. Family and friends from childhood and college gathered to enjoy delicious custom cookies, homemade quiches, cucumber sandwiches and pimiento cheese squares. It was an excellent way to celebrate their engagement and anticipate the upcoming wedding.
